“…The quality of life of head and neck cancer patients is often reduced due to psychosocial problems, lower general performance status and speech, and mastication impairment following intraoral free flap reconstruction. [17][18][19][20][21][22] Our results show that, in addition to these factors, the presence of neuropathic pain at the forearm donor site significantly reduces quality of life even further, emphasizing the great need for improving neuropathic pain prevention and management. Moreover, our results show that neuropathic pain was associated with inferior hand function.…”

In addition to the aforementioned predicting factors, side effects of cancer treatments (17,37,38), presence of dysphagia and hoarseness (39), tissue reconstruction undergone (34), tooth brushing and tooth loss (40) determine the QoL which was not considered in the present study among oral cancer survivors. Furthermore, our study was concentrated around the main cancer hospital in Sri Lanka where we expect to have good quality care for the survivors.…”

“…The main treatment methods and strategies are surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, etc. but the 5-year survival rate of patients is still about 65%, and that of advanced patients is less than 30% 2,3 . With the progress of modern medicine, the mortality rate of oral squamous cell carcinoma has not decreased signi cantly.…”
