Performance of routing protocols for VANETs

Abstract: Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANETs) are self-configuring networks where the nodes are vehicles equipped with wireless communication technologies. In such networks, limitation of signal coverage and fast topology changes impose difficulties to the proper functioning of the routing protocols. Most applications critically rely on routing protocols. Thus in this work, we propose a methodology for investigating the performance of well established protocols for MANETs in the VANET arena. Three routing protocols are co… Show more

“…Obviously, it is not possible for a network to achieve the best results for all KPIs, since many of them have opposite requirements. KPIs of a network must be realistic and the network should have acceptable results in all KPIs [51]. Currently, the collection of the simulation data in NS-3 can be realized using several methods.…”

“…Two traffic generation strategies were considered, both using On/Off sources with constant bit rate (CBR) and UDP protocol. In the first strategy a traffic similar to that used in [47] was considered. In this case, during the whole simulation, each node will be sending data to a random destination for a time chosen between 40 and 60 seconds.…”
