Performance of photocatalyst based carbon nanodots from waste frying oil in water purification

Abstract: Abstract. Carbon Nanodots (C-Dots) from waste frying oil could be used as a photocatalyst in water purification with solar light irradiation. Performance of C-Dots as a photocatalyst was tested in the process of water purification with a given synthetic sewage methylene blue. The tested was also conducted by comparing the performance C-Dots made from frying oil, waste fryng oil as a photocatalyst and solution of methylene blue without photocatalyst C-Dots. Performance of C-Dots from waste frying oil were estim… Show more

“…Hence, aiming at a distinct perspective, we will compile a general review on the recent progress of the CDs. We intend to spotlight the latest advances in the CDs research, focus on synthesis, PL mechanism, and applications of CDs in this feature review [34][35][36][37][38]. Specifically, we first mainly summarize the synthesis routes to produce the CDs from different resources in especially low cost, and environmentally friendly natural biomass in Section 2.…”

“…C-Dots are new carbon nanomaterials with size below 10 nm, first obtain during purification of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNCTs) through electrophoresis in 2004 [3]. Small size and strong photoluminescent properties of C-Dots have shown great impact in various applications such as optoelectronic devices, photocatalyst, electrocatalyst and bioimaging [1,[4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. Moreover, C-Dots can be synthesized from natural carbon sources in low temperature that shows green, cheap and facile synthesis process.…”

The C-dot preparation can often be completed in one step without excessive equipment or complicated processes (Figure 1a) [13]. This method involves heating organic materials in the absence of oxygen to convert them into carbon-rich materials.…”
