Performance of link adaptation techniques for different service classes through land mobile satellite communication channels

Abstract: The end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) is getting more and more importance nowadays. QoS is composed of many parameters, like bit error rate (BER) delay, jitter etc. The most important task will be in the future to provide reliable end-toend QoS over heterogenous networks, including satellite connections. The most unreliable part of an end-to-end connection is the wireless link, but wireless connections give the mobility for terminal equipments. This paper will deal with examining the performance of different… Show more

“…The algorithm suggested in this thesis monitors and switches modulation schemes depending on the signal strength on the communication link as it fluctuates throughout ISS passes. LA is used in a variety of terrestrial applications such as WiFi, land mobile communications, and cellular systems [3][4][5][6][7][8]. LA has also been used in satellite communications applications [9][10][11][12], evaluating the performance of an adaptive modulation system in the unique space-based propagation environment.…”

“…Research has demonstrated that an adaptive waveform is a key factor [13], and because of its constant envelope, CPM signals show high resistance to channel non-linearity and more flexibility than "classic" waveforms to cope with propagation conditions [3].…”
