Performance of concrete reinforced with jute fibers (natural fibers): A review

Abstract: Natural fibers are an excellent alternative since they are inexpensive and easily accessible in fibrous form. Several researchers claim that jute fiber (JTF) can be used in concrete to improve its strength and durability performance. This review describes the characteristics and potential uses of some jute fibers in concrete. The main theme of this review is to summarize the effect of JTF on fresh properties of concrete, strength parameters, and durability characteristics. It can be concluded that jute fibers … Show more

“…342 A twin-screw extruder was employed for the direct thermoplastic processing of long fibres. 328 The fibres were washed and dried at 60 °C for 48 h before compounding, until a uniform weight was reached. Then, the fibres were integrated in the side feeder of the extruder, which fed them directly into the melting of polymers.…”

“…219 great and superior alternative to conventional raw materials in the construction industries. [212][213][214] Ramie fiber, epoxy, and aluminum sheets were used to fabricate a laminate composite in the sandwich method, which has been used as a structural material. The composite showed significantly higher specific tensile properties than the aluminum sheets alone.…”

“…Moreover, the fibers have a better ability to make bonds with the materials. Therefore, the bast fiber composite matrix can be a great and superior alternative to conventional raw materials in the construction industries 212–214 . Ramie fiber, epoxy, and aluminum sheets were used to fabricate a laminate composite in the sandwich method, which has been used as a structural material.…”

“…Test fndings show that silica fume and sisal fbres may be used to strengthen concrete, and they also show an improvement in the material's mechanical qualities for M30 and M40 concrete [20,21]. Te typical range of optimum dose of Jute fbres varies from 1% to 2% depending on the length and diameter of jute fbres [22]. Coconut fbre enhanced the mechanical performance of concrete by preventing cracks, similar to synthetic fbres, but decreased the fowability of concrete [23].…”
