Performance of cabbage at different irrigation levels under drip and microsprinkler irrigation systems*

Abstract: Field experiments were conducted for 3 years to investigate an appropriate irrigation management strategy that would lead to increased cabbage productivity along with saving in irrigation water. Cabbage was grown with microsprinkler and drip irrigation methods with four irrigation levels based on crop evapotranspiration (ETc) as 0.8 ETc, 0.9 ETc, 1 ETc, and 1.1 ETc. It was found that cabbage crop performed better with the microsprinkler system than the drip system. All the growth-and yield-contributing charact… Show more

“…Drip irrigation is a highly efficient irrigation system (He & Baugher, 2019; Shinde et al, 2021) that supplies water in small quantities to the core root zones of plants. More frequent irrigation in smaller doses saves water by preventing leaching loss (Green et al, 2003).…”

“…Solid geophysical investigations, prior to any drilling, must make it possible to identify such waterpoints. By associating microsprinkler irrigation with these boreholes-and not drip irrigation, whose clogging constraints are difficult to solve for smallholders-a real sustainable rural development can be triggered [40]. Networks for a 1 ha irrigation scheme, including a water tower of at least 30 m 3 placed at a height of 15 m, are expensive and difficult to stabilize.…”

“…As the cardamom orchard is raised on terraced slopy mountain land, the conventional surface irrigation methods are impracticable and infeasible. The water-saving advanced microirrigation technology irrigation like microsprinkler and drip systems is most desirable in this hostile condition to conserve water and increase water use efficiency (Shinde et al 2020).…”
