Performance Modeling and Analysis of Refrigeration System of a Milk Processing Plant using Petri Nets

Abstract: This paper described the performance modeling of the refrigeration system of a milk processing plant using Petri nets and obtained a quantitative analysis in terms of availability under varying operating parameters. For the modeling and simulation of the system, a Petri module of GRIF software was used. In the current study, an effort was made to use reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) tools, which can be quantitative or qualitative methods and software that reduce the uncertainties involved i… Show more

“…Due to this, we preferred to use the PN technique in this study and the licensed software tool named Petri module of GRIF for computations. However, the results presented in earlier published Sachdeva et al [11,12], Kumar et al [22] and Malik and Tewari [24] validate and strengthen the significance of the present work.…”

“…[21] proposed an analytical model that uses the SPN technique for developing an intelligent emergency evacuation system in buildings which may be used on accidental fire occurrence. More recently, Kumar et al [22] used GSPN formalism to perform the availability analysis of the refrigeration system of a milk processing plant.…”

“…The variation in failure and the repair values on the accumulator shows the least effect as much as 2.13%. Narendra et al [13] observed almost similar effects on the system's behaviour with the PN approach. Based upon the above discussions, a framework on DSP may be proposed for the guidance of the users facing RAM issues.…”

“…Further particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique has been applied for optimizing the results. Li et al [12], Kumar et al [13,14,15,16], Kuchárik and Balogh [17], Kumar and Tewari [18] and Parkash and Tewari applied [19] extended versions of PN based approach for developing performance models of different industrial systems.…”

“…These are assigned firing rates just as in SPN. Singh and Garg [9], Sachdeva et al [10,11], Thangamani [12], Kumar et al [13], Tavana [14], Ferreira et al [15] applied GSPN for modeling and availability analysis of different industrial systems.…”
