Performance Improvement of Distribution System by Using PROMETHEE - Multiple Attribute Decision Making Method

Abstract: Distribution system (DS) delivers electrical power to the end users and is the first interface of the utility with the consumers. Due to deregulation and competition amongst distributors, distribution utilities are under pressure to minimize the losses and to improve reliability to enhance the overall performance. Keeping in view of these aspects the distribution system is reconfigured for the purpose of loss minimization, balancing the load on the feeders, relieving overloads, and maintenance. Each configurat… Show more

“…The decision-making (DM) problems addressing multiple-attributes can be broadly classified among two types of classifications [38,41]. In the first type, referred to as the priori methods, weights are assigned (subjectively or objectively) to each criterion in case of predetermined solutions (also called alternatives).…”

“…It is also important to mention that the works reported in [14,[32][33][34][35][36][37] have mostly aimed at RDN, centered on a single branch (two buses) model and cannot encompass the core dynamic of LDN and MDN that is usually fed by more than on sending end. From the viewpoint of MCDM, hybrid methodologies have been put forward to achieve multiple objectives or evaluation under various criteria. In the research works [38][39][40][41], the prominent MCDM methods employed are weighted sum method (WSM), weighted product method (WPM), technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS), preference ranking organization method for enrichment of evaluations (PROMETHEE), and RDN is reconfigured in terms of asset optimization to achieve objects such as active power losses, reliability, and average energy not served (AENS). Also, the heuristic and meta-heuristic methods in combination with MCDM have been utilized in various asset planning works to achieve a suitable solution.…”

“…After the reconfiguration of distribution system, available alternatives are different switching combinations for decision-making. The attributes that may be considered for decision making are energy losses, security of system, voltage magnitude, capital cost, supply availability or non-availability, constraints related to capacity, length of the circuit and reliability indices such as system average interruption frequency index (SAIFI), system average interruption duration index (SAIDI), consumer average interruption frequency index (CAIFI), customer average interruption duration index (CAIDI) and average energy not supplied (AENS) [27,28].The application of multiple attribute decision-making (MADM) methods for decision making in distribution systems is described by PROMETHEE [29], which is improved upon as AHP-PROMETHEE [30]. An evaluation of Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and PROMETHEE [31], and a comparison of the simple additive method (SAW) or weighted sum method (WSM), weighted product method (WPM) and TOPSIS and PROMEHEE methods is done in [32].…”

“…In this paper, a blended biased and unbiased (BBUW) method is proposed for obtaining the compromised optimal combination of switches by considering some of the attributes from available alternatives for practical distribution systems, and the results are compared with other MADM methods such as WSM, WPM, AHP and TOPSIS [27][28][29][30][31][32].…”
