Automatic repeat request (ARQ) schemes, and in particular hybrid-ARQ (HARQ) schemes, which jointly adopt forward error correction (FEC) and ARQ, are essential to provide reliable data transmission in wireless communications systems. However, the feedback from the receiver to the transmitter and the retransmission process used in ARQ incurs significant cost in terms of power efficiency, throughput, computational power and delay. Unfortunately, such drawbacks can limit their applications to several current and emerging technologies. More specifically, the increasing number of wireless users has create spectrum scarcity, relying on small-size batteries create power constraints, deployment of real-time applications boost the demand for ultralow delay networks, and the ultra-small low-cost internet of things (IoT) devices has limited signal processing and computation capabilities. Consequently, extensive research efforts have been dedicated to overcome the limitations inherent in HARQ. This survey paper provides an extensive literature review of the stateof-the-art HARQ techniques and discusses their integration in various wireless technologies. Moreover, it provides insights on advantages and disadvantages of particular ARQ types and discusses open problems and future directions.

Recent years have witnessed a colossal increase of vehicles on the roads; unfortunately, the infrastructure of roads and traffic systems has not kept pace with this growth, resulting in inefficient traffic management. Owing to this imbalance, traffic jams on roads, congestions, and pollution have shown a marked increase. The management of growing traffic is a major issue across the world. Traffic management is a key branch within logistics. It concerns the planning, control and purchasing of transport services needed to physically move vehicles (for example aircraft, road vehicles, rolling stock and watercraft) and freight. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have a great potential in offering solutions to such issues by using novel technologies. The ITS-based traffic management and control solutions in this evaluation have been divided into four categories: solutions for managing traffic, preventing congestion, and predicting trip times. The solutions, together with the underlying technology, benefits, and limitations, have been described.

It is made easier to incorporate renewable energy technology into the design and operation of buildings by the technological possibilities, techniques, and approaches that are addressed in this article. These building technologies include solar, wind, and geothermal systems. This article's goal is to provide a comprehensive study of the multiple technologies and alternative sources of energy that have been successfully adopted in order to reduce the amount of electrical and thermal energy that is required by buildings. These technologies and sources of energy include solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, bioenergy, and more. In this study, the methods that are applied for the integration of these technologies inside the structures of buildings are explored. Additionally, the importance of increasing the energy efficiency of buildings is discussed in this research. In addition, this article provides tips on how to properly implement programs that make use of alternative or renewable forms of energy.
