Performance Evaluation on Selection of Formwork Systems in High Rise Buildings Using Regression Analysis and Their Impacts on Project Success

Abstract: The selection of the formwork system for high rise building affects the entire construction project duration and cost. The study reports the factors influencing the selection of different formwork system in the construction of high rise buildings through structural questionnaire survey from the client, contractor, consultant, and interviews with expert members. Total of 40 technical factors was identified from the literature and 220 filled questionnaires were received from the respondent. Relative Importance I… Show more

“…Lohana (2018) examined the effects of productivity criteria, which can be evaluated as a function of cost, cycle time, and the degree of repetition of FWS, in the selection process of FWSs in high-rise buildings in India. Rajeshkumar and Sreevidya (2019) and Rajeshkumar et al (2021) studied the factors influencing the FWS selection in high-rise buildings in India and identified 40 selection factors grouped into five categories, namely general, structural, formwork, environmental, and cost. In these studies, transportation cost was introduced as a new factor for the selection of FWSs.…”

“…Lohana [29] demonstrated that the productivity criteria for the selection of FWSs in building construction projects can be measured as a function of cost, cycle time, and the degree of repetition of FWS. Rajeshkumar and Sreevidya [30] and Rajeshkumar et al [31] investigated the criteria influencing FWS selection in high-rise buildings in India by determining their relative importance level and grouped 40 selection criteria into five categories by utilizing factors analysis. In addition, transportation costs were added as a new criterion for selecting FWSs.…”

“…Huang and Hinze (2003) discovered that 5.83% of falls on construction sites were ascribed to the construction of formwork or construction of temporary structures and around 21% of all accidents involved wood framing or formwork construction. From this background, formwork needs to have good quality in relation to strength, durability and rigidity and it must be safe to workers and the concrete structures and it should as well be strong enough to withstand the dead and live load (Rajeshkumar and Sreevidya, 2019). Formwork is subjected to a wide variety of loads and exposures when in use and it stands to reason that there would be a reduction in the strength or structural capacity of the formwork as it undergoes multiple uses (Gambatese et al , 2014).…”
