Frequent droughts and waterlogging events are a threat to food security. An understanding of the spatial and temporal variations that occur during such events is essential when conducting a regional and/or global drought and waterlogging assessment. The goal of this study is to define a comprehensive index that considers the continuum system of atmosphere, crops, and soil moisture impacts on droughts and waterlogging events, and to analyze the temporal and spatial distribution of such events in the development of maize. The results show that the proposed comprehensive drought and waterlogging index (CDWI) can bring together the advantages of a single drought and waterlogging index and reasonably describe its range. During the study period, the annual trends of the CDWI decreased at different growth stages from 1982 to 2015, whereas the CDWI did not show significant spatial heterogeneity during any particular stage. Increasing trends of CDWI over 0.019/year were found in the northern part of Midwestern Jilin Province from the emergence to tasseling stages. In addition, decreasing trends were observed in the study area from the tasseling to maturation stages. Slight drought and waterlogging events occurred more frequently than moderate and serious drought and waterlogging events.

Abstract: Irregular particulates of Silicon carbide (SiCp) augmented aluminium 7075 metal matrix composite (MMC) was processed by vortex route of stir casting. Homogeneous dispersion of the reinforcement was verified by metallurgical microscope. Machining performance of the synthesized MMC was investigated during turning, considering surface roughness, cutting temperature, tool flank wear and material removal rate as performance criteria. The chips formed during the turning trials were also analyzed. The machining quality targets were optimized simultaneously through grey relational analysis (GRA) based Taguchi method, which resulted that the optimal combination of parametric levels was 154 m.min -1 , 0.04 mm.rev -1 and 0.1 mm of cutting speed (V), feed (f) and cutting depth (d), respectively. Mathematical models were then generated for the individual responses using response surface method, followed by verification of their adequacy.

Highlights:Graphical/Tabular Abstract  Developing consistent OHS performance measurement method by using integrated multi-criteria decision making methods  Objectively and realistically measuring OHS performance of 27 hospitals in a short period.  Examining correlations between OHS performance and hospitals' other features such as ISO 9001 certificate, type of hospital and age of hospital.Legislative OHS (occupational health and safety) changes, use of OHS management systems and new OHS practices are continuously taking place in work places. It is essential to measure OHS performance to determine effects of these changes. In addition to considering their own OHS performances, companies consider subcontractors' OHS performance as well. In the literature survey, authors were not able to find an objective, practical OHS performance measurement method that can be used for comparing multiple companies' OHS performance in a short period. The methods in the literature aimed to measure OHS performance of single enterprise by long-term observations with high expertise.Proposed method of OHS performance measurement can be seen in Table 1. Results:Firstly, occupational accidents statistics and risk analysis statistics were found the most important safety indicators. Secondly; State Hospital 1, Private Hospital 2, Private Hospital 3 and Education Research Hospital 1 were top 4 in terms of OHS performance among 27 hospitals, according to both GRA and PROMETHEE results. High correlation was found between GRA and PROMETHEE results. Lastly, correlation between OHS performance and hospitals' other features (hospital type, ISO 9001 certificate, and OHS department foundation year) were observed. Conclusion:This research proposes practical and objective OHS performance measurement method for healthcare institutions. It can measure OHS performance of multiple institutions in a short period and it can be used for other sectors in the future.
