Performance Evaluation of the New Compound-Carrier-Modulated Signal for Future Navigation Signals

Abstract: Navigation Signal based on Compound Carrier (NSCC), is proposed as the potential future global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signal modulation scheme. NSCC, a kind of multi-carrier (MC) signal, is generated by superposition and multi-parameter adjustment of sub-carriers. Therefore, a judious choice of parameter configation is needed. The main objective of this paper is to investigate the performance of the NSCC which is influenced by these parameters and to demonstrate its structure characteristics and su… Show more

“…The global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is widely used in military and civilian areas for position, velocity and time (PVT). Due to its weak power when reaching the Earth's surface, GNSS signal is very vulnerable to various intentional and unintentional interferences (Sahmoudi and Amin, 2009; Amin et al., 2016; Fernandez-Prades et al., 2016; Fohlmeister et al., 2017; Appel et al., 2019; García-Molina and Fernández-Rubio, 2019; Sgammini et al., 2019). Among these, the ubiquitous multipath is notably difficult to address, especially for mobile devices operating in urban areas (Hsu et al., 2015; Xie and Petovello, 2015; Sun et al., 2020).…”

“…Subsequent innovations for GNSS signal design have mainly focused on spectrum-efficient modulations, particularly such as square root-raised cosine (SRRC) [9], prolate spheroidal wave functions (PSWF) [13], [14], complex carrier modulation [15], orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) [16], [17], and filtered multitoned (FMT) modulation [18]. Although abovementioned modulations preserve spectral compactness well, their envelopes are not constant intrinsically, resulting in the nonlinear signal distortion at the high power amplifier (HPA) output if not considering peak to average power ratio (PAPR) reduction or constant-envelope multiplexing technique [19].…”

“…Ruidan Luo et al proposed a navigation modulation method based on a multi-carrier composite carrier. Compared with the existing modulation signal, it has outstanding performance in terms of tracking accuracy, anti-interference, and spectrum utilization and can even be used as a signal for a ground-based augmentation system [20][21][22].…”
