Performance evaluation of stored geocast

Abstract:  This paper presents a definition, the design space, three reasonable implementations, and an ns-2 simulation study of a new type of geocast protocol, called stored geocast. A stored geocast is a time stable geocast, which is delivered to all nodes that are inside a destination region within a certain period of time. When used in a mobile ad hoc network (MANET) it allows to realize a persistent message valid for a certain geographic region, possibly combined with a time limit. Stored geocast is of particular … Show more

“…It may be useful, or even essential, for a message to be available to vehicles that enter the geocast region after the message has spread. In [17], three different approaches to time persistent geocast are proposed. In the server approach, the message is stored on a central server and delivered to new nodes in the geocast region.…”

“…Another example is when vehicles sense a dangerous road conditions they send EWMs to other vehicles in a certain area, and these vehicles disseminate the EWMs to the new vehicles entering that area. Some of the proposed techniques are presented in (Yang et al, 2004) (Maih¨ofer, 2003) (Yu & Heijenk, 2008).…”

“…In the protocol, a message is forwarded to all nodes within a Zone of Relevance (ZoR) similar to geocasting protocols [18,19]. The protocol uses a reactive route discovery process within a ZoR.…”
