Performance evaluation of phosphite NaCo(H2PO3)3·H2O as a corrosion inhibitor for aluminum in engine coolant solutions

Abstract: The inhibiting action of a novel inorganic compound (NaCo(H 2 PO 3 ) 3 $H 2 O) (NaCoPh) synthesized in our laboratory on the corrosion of aluminum in engine coolant solutions has been studied. In this study, potentiodynamic polarization measurements with SEM/EDX investigations were employed. Polarization curves reveal that NaCoPh is a mixed type (cathodic/anodic) inhibitor for aluminum corrosion in the engine coolant solution. The inhibition efficiency increases with increasing concentration of NaCoPh but decr… Show more

“…There was no denite trend in the shi of E corr in the presence of PY1 and PY2; therefore, PY1 and PY2 could be mixedtype inhibitors, with the inhibitory action caused by a geometric blocking effect. 19,20 However, there is no signicant change in Tafel slopes (anodic b a and cathodic b c ), aer PY1 and PY2 addition, which indicates that the studied inhibitors do not change the cathodic and anodic reactions mechanism. This means that the two inhibitors act as adsorptive inhibitors.…”

“…Surface improvement and reduction in the amount of corrosion products further conrm the anti-corrosion effect and protective performance of LG extract for C-steel in produced oileld water. 45 Besides SEM and EDX analyses, FT-IR is a powerful technique for studying the modication in C-steel surface with addition of corrosion inhibitor. FT-IR is used to proof the interaction between organic compounds in the plant extract and C-steel surface.…”

“…On the other hand, methyl groups, C = C stretching, C-N stretching, C-O-C stretching and aromatic C-H bands were missing, suggesting that these groups were not used for bonding and/or interaction. The observed vibration bands at low frequencies regions indicate the formation of β-Fe 2 O 3 [32].…”
