Performance evaluation of optical attocells configuration in an indoor visible light communication

Abstract: Visible light communication VLC is deemed as futuristic technology applied for both illumination and data communication due to the low-cost energy consumption, long life expectancy, huge bandwidth, and high security compared to radio frequency RF. Uncovered area, minimum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and received power results from the non-uniform distribution of small base stations (i.e. Optical attocells) in the room. In this paper, the researchers propose a new LEDs distribution of five optical attocells conf… Show more

“…Therefore using the technique mentioned above, this confirms that the signal transmitted through the light source (light emitting diode (LED) or laser diode (LD)) is in the form of optical power [2], indicating that it is a positive light signal [3]. The wavelength electromagnetic spectrum range in VLC from 400 to 700 nm [4].…”

“…The frequency vector, ɑm,n, is directly inputted to an N-point IFFT as in traditional complex FBMC systems since no Hermitian symmetry limitation is decreed, the IFFT output signal is complex and can be expressed in (4).…”

“…In order to improve the receiver gain and enhance the received power and SNR distribution, the FOV should be decreased, but not less than the limited value in order to avoid the blind area of the room as in Komine and Nakagawa . In this study, an optimized FOV of 40° was used based on findings from Gismalla et al for the proposed model.…”

“…One of the most popular LED array configurations used in indoor environments is square and hollow LEDs array. In previous studies, several design models were introduced to improve uniformity distribution and VLC system performance as well . Single and four‐optical attocells configuration models were introduced in Nguyen et al and Ganjian et al; they were evaluated in terms of their received power, signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR), and illumination levels.…”
