When the distance between the source and the target is long, the signal will be affected by atmospheric turbulence, weather conditions and obstacles, which cannot support the information transmission. One of the existing solutions is to use relay-assisted technology (RAT). It makes the communications between the source and the destination possible under better channel conditions by setting up relay between the source and the destination. There are few comprehensive articles about relay-assisted technology in OWC. To fill this gap, this paper introduces the RAT of indoor optical wireless communications (IOWC), outdoor optical wireless communications (OOWC) and underwater optical wireless communications (UOWC) in different application scenarios, which has a better effect than direct communication between source and destination. The relay protocols, channel models, modulation techniques under three relay modes are reviewed. Finally, challenges of RAT in OWC are put forward and potential solutions are also given.

Unmanned aerial vehicle's (UAVs) small size, long-lasting battery, and flexible trajectory have produced widespread applications in radio communication systems, especially its usage as a cellular tower (gNB) for 5G services. At the same time, the mmWave's enormous available bandwidth makes it the primary contender for next-generation communication networks. This article aims to synthesize and assess the usage of mmWave concurrently in backhaul and access links for amplify-and-forward (AF) relay installed on the UAV. A mathematical framework is developed for the received power of the user equipment (UE) obtained in relay path (gNB-UAV-UE) and direct path (gNB-UE) via; (i) free space, and (ii) log-distance path loss model. The International Telecommunication Union recommended city model is used to assess the likelihood for LoS and NLoS paths in four urban environments; (i) high-rise urban, (ii) dense urban, (iii) urban, and (iv) suburban. Furthermore, various parameters, that is, UAV's position and amplification factor are stipulated to optimize the efficiency of a UAV-based AF relay for enhanced users coverage.

For the development of any organization, evaluation of performance is an important task. To analyze the performance, Das et al. introduced a ranking framework based on fuzzy logic. That framework compared the current NIRF system of Indian Institutions with the fuzzy logic-based Mamdani system, KSM index. In that study, uniform membership functions are not taken. This study will focus on the ranking system based on Mamdani and Sugeno with fuzzy triangular numbers as input values of membership functions. Also, the updated results are compared with existing NIRF systems and considered Top 20 institutions of India for the year 2019 as per NIRF.
