Performance Evaluation of Modified SLM Technique in OFDM System Using Selected Codeword Shift

Abstract: Abstract.Selective Mapping (SLM) is a well-known technique used in OFDM System to reduce high Peak-Average Power Ratio (PAPR). High PAPR occurred during signal processing which multiple data are converted into electromagnetic signal via Inverse Fast Fourier transform (IFFT) at the transmitter. Even though SLM technique has a potential to reduce high PAPR, it disrupts the overall performance of bit error rate (BER) at receiver part. In this paper, a modified SLM has been proposed using circulant shift and embed… Show more

“…Peak windowing, selective mapping (SLM), clipping and filtering, block coding approaches, and others are all mentioned by Shukla [5]. In terms of PAPR reduction, various strategies have been proposed by researchers which is Selective Mapping (SLM) [6][7], Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) [8][9][10][11] and codeword shifting [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19]. These are some implementations of the multiple signaling approach and the probabilistic method.…”

“…The transmit signal with the lowest PAPR is selected from a group of suitably distinct signals that all reflect the same data. The advantage of SLM is that no distortion is introduced and the number of carriers is independent, while the disadvantage is that side information is introduced and the BER performance is degraded [5][6][7]. Because of this drawback, PAPR has been reduced using a mix of SLM and clipping techniques [8].…”

“…This technique actual transmit signal lowest PAPR is selected from set of sufficiently different signal which all represents the same information [4,9]. The advantage of SLM such as no distortion is introduced and Independent number of carrier while the disadvantage such as side information and degrade BER performance [10][11][12]. Due to this disadvantage the combination of SLM and clipping technique been applied to reduce PAPR [5].…”
