Performance Evaluation of IEEE 802.15.4 Protocol Under Coexistence of WiFi 802.11b

Abstract: ZigBee (IEEE 802.15.4) is a wireless mesh networking protocol low in cost, power, data rate, and complexity. To access Local Area Networks (LAN), 802.11b/g standard is used all over the world as Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) standard. IEEE 802.15.4 Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and IEEE 802.11b/g Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) are often collocated, causing a coexistence. The coexistence occurs because these networks share the same 2.4 GHz Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band. A Simulation model h… Show more

“…In our experiment, the results show an increase of backoff number, the delay and packet drop with the increase of the number of Wi-Fi devices. A frequency agility based interference avoidance algorithm has been proposed in [21], it detects interference and adaptively switches nodes to safe channel to dynamically avoid WLAN interference. As we have shown previously, simulation results also show that failed transmissions are much higher under the heavy interferences.…”

“…, 9} nodes on an area of 100 m × 100 m. Again, the CDF is evaluated based on localization error. In [22] range-free localization techniques are also evaluated on an area of 1000 m × 1000 m where the log-normal shadowing model is used for different propagation settings, at 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi/802.11g [42,43] and 5.8 GHz [44,45]. In this scenario the localization technique performance is evaluated on the basis of the ALE and the CDF, by varying the node density ρ ∈ {0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1, .…”
