Performance evaluation of electric discharge machining of titanium alloy-a review

Abstract: Titanium alloy has a high specific resistance, excellent machining performance is non-corrosive, and the capability to withstand greater temperatures while maintaining outstanding mechanical properties. This alloy is, therefore, the right choice for aerospace, maritime, biomedical, and industrial applications. But machinability of titanium alloy is challenging as a result of its poor thermal conductivity, highly chemically reactive, and low elastic modulus hence it is treated as a difficult-to-cut material. Fa… Show more

“…When machining titanium alloy using traditional techniques, rapid tool wear is seen. [17] Jatinder Kumar et al, explained the TOPSIS: Processing and Characterizations Optimization of Wire-EDM Process Parameters for Al-Mg-0.6Si-0.35Fe/15%RHA/5%Cu Hybrid Metal Matrix Composite. In the present experimental work, the ideal wire-EDM processing factor set for a new hybrid aluminum matrix composite, Al-Mg-0.6Si-0.35Fe/15%RHA/5%Cu, is being investigated. According to normal testing procedures, the composite shows 64.2 HRB hardness, 104.6 MPa tensile strength, and 4.8 joules of impact energy.…”

“…VIKOR, introduced by Opricovic in 1998, offers a compromise solution for multiple criteria decision-making problems by minimizing the maximum individual regret [24]. Grey Relational Analysis (GRA), on the other hand, stems from grey system theory and focuses on solving complex decision-making problems in uncertain and imprecise environments [25]. From the literature survey, it was evident that tonnes of works were performed on the EDM by varying its process parameters and tool materials.…”

“…One of the tested non-conventional machining techniques for cutting Ti components is WEDM [27]. The temperature of the spark rises between 8000 °C and 10000 °C in the regionalized zone, melting and evaporating a little amount of the substance from the work piece [28,29].…”
