Performance Evaluation of Different Mobile Ad-hoc Network Routing Protocols in Difficult Situations

Abstract: Performance evaluation of Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) routing protocols is essential for selecting the appropriate protocol for the network. Many routing protocols and different simulation tools were proposed to address this task. This paper will introduce an overview of MANETs routing protocols as well as evaluate MANET performance by using three reactive protocols-Dynamic Source Routing (DSR), Ad-Hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV), and Dynamic MANET On-Demand (DYMO)-in three different scenarios. These sc… Show more

“…Routing information is obtained periodically in proactive routing protocols [12,13]and then kept in one or more routing tables. This type of protocol changesare in routing structure, the number of tables, update frequency, use of hello packet messages and found in the central node.…”

“…MANETS may be dispatched to any site rapidly and at any time and can adapt to individual situations. These outstanding benefits sparked an immediate interest in MANETS among the military, police, and emergency services, particularly in chaotic or hostile environments [22], [23]. Before it, business applications started to appear, relying on continually developing standards like IEEE 802.11.…”

“…Weather and the frequencies of other nearby devices or networks also cause interference. Furthermore, individual devices can obstruct the transmission of a single piece of data to the following network nodes [22]. The singles reflected from obstacles cause multipath propagation.…”
