3) ABSTRAK GPSR merupakan protokol routing geografis yang bekerja menggunakan informasi lokasi node tetangga dan jangkauan transmisi ke lokasi node tujuan terdekat. Namun, GPSR tidak selalu menemukan rute yang optimal, karena tidak semua node yang terdekat dapat meneruskan paket menuju tujuan khususnya skenario lalu lintas padat dan banyak persimpangan. Kami mengusulkan route discovery protokol Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) untuk memastikan rute yang dikirimkan paket data memiliki ketersediaan yang tinggi. Selain itu kami juga mengusulkan overlay network dengan menyimpan titik lokasi persimpangan yang dilalui pada saat proses route discovery sehingga proses pengiriman data nantinya dapat diandalkan dengan tidak selalu mengacu pada intermediate node namun pada titik lokasi yang disimpan. Untuk menganalisa usulan kami dengan membandingkan performa GPSR modifikasi dan GPSR konvensional seperti packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay dan routing overhead pada skenario berbeda dengan memvariasikan jumlah node dan kecepatan node menggunakan simulator NS2. Hasil simulasi menunjukan pendekatan yang kami usulkan meningkatkan packet delivery ratio 11.25% dan mereduksi 197.08 paket routing overhead pada kecepatan 10 m/s.

Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) are a specific class of Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs). Since vehicles tend to move in a high speed, the network topology is rapidly changed. Thus vehicle's connectivity problem is one of the interesting issues in VANETs. Ad hoc On-demand Multipath Distance Vector (AOMDV) is an extended version of ad hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV). AOMDV is designed to overcome a connectivity problem due to highly dynamic network topology. It provides multipath for data packets delivery from the source to the destination. However, AOMDV's multipath establishment and maintenance generate more control packets than those of AODV's unipath. Meanwhile, both protocols degrade their performance when the vehicle speed is increasing. Thus in this study, we added probabilistic relay, which enables adjacent vehicles to probabilistically relay unsuccessful data packet transmission into IEEE 802.11 as a MAC standard model and proposed AODV with Probabilistic Relay (AODV-PR) and AOMDV with Probabilistic Relay (AOMDV-PR). Based on our simulation results, the addition of probabilistic relay clearly helps those protocols to improve their performances especially in packet delivery ratio under highly dynamic environments. Probabilistic relay adds the number of generated beacon messages, but does not produce any additional routing messages. We evaluate those protocol performances based on several metrics such as packet delivery ratio, routing overhead, average delivery delay, hop count and number of relays under variation of vehicle speed and beacon interval. We show that beacon interval has a huge influence in the performance of AODV-PR and AOMDV-PR especially for their routing overhead.

Group vehicular applications could play a vital role in our life, whether these applications are safety-oriented or convenience-oriented applications. The group concept has also been used in support of many solutions in VANETs. Reference Point Group Mobility model (RPGM) is a popular group mobility model and has been used heavily in the literature. In order to study the impact of this mobility model on routing in VANETs, two well-known protocols are considered, namely AODV and AOMDV, as representatives of single-path and multipath routing, respectively. These protocols have shown performance merits over other routing protocols and they have a vital role in other wireless networks including MANETs and Wireless Mesh Networks. This paper provides a thorough evaluation of these protocols, by examining them under various potential realistic scenarios, under the RPGM mobility model. To the best of knowledge, this is the first study that examines the behaviour of the two protocols under the RPGM mobility model. The results from extensive simulations have shown that both protocols have comparable performance merits when the number of communicating nodes is low. However, increasing the number of communicating nodes has demonstrated a performance advantage for AOMDV, in the majority of the performance metrics used in the paper.
