Performance Evaluation Model for Multipurpose Multireservoir System Operation

Abstract: This paper describes the development of a performance evaluation based model for the operation of multipurpose multireservoir in a river basin system. The methodology developed in the present study has been evolved for (1) allocation of releases for multi-purpose from each reservoir, (2) fair allocation of mandatory flow releases in the river, and (3) the assessment of the system capability for multipurpose operation. The System Performance Index (SYSPI) has been introduced as a measure of the overall performa… Show more

“…The formulation of mathematical optimization problems associated with control and optimization systems may depend on tailored KPIs, represented by the cost functions to be minimized/maximized. These cost functions can be formulated taking into account different objectives, e.g., the maximization of hydropower production, water supply reliability, spill prevention, and revenue income [100,101].…”

“…Five performance indicator indices: Volume Reliability Index (VRI ), Time Reliability Index (TRI ), Hydropower Production Index (HPI ), Economic Benefits Index (ECBI ), and Spill Prevention Index (SPPI ) have been formulated for evaluating the performance of the multipurpose multireservoir system (Joshi, 2008). A model has been developed to address the trade-offs between different purposes, such as the industrial and domestic water supply, irrigation, hydropower generation, and downstream flow requirement, by defining quantitative measures of system performance.…”
