Performance comparison of 100Gbps upstream coherent passive optical network

Abstract

For the upstream passive optical network (PON), we design and evaluate an intensity modulation quaternary pulse amplitude modulation (PAM-4) with the four coherent receivers in terms of Homodyne coherent and balanced detection in polarization multiplexing. The obtained simulation results validate the 100 Gbps coherent upstream PAM-PON scheme with the successful transmission over the C-band standard single mode fiber.
