COVID-19 has provoked enormous negative impacts on human lives and the world economy. In order to help in the fight against this pandemic, this study evaluates different databases’ systems and selects the most suitable for storing, handling, and mining COVID-19 data. We evaluate different SQL and NoSQL database systems using the following metrics: query runtime, memory used, CPU used, and storage size. The databases systems assessed were Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, and Cassandra. We also evaluate Data Mining algorithms, including Decision Trees, Random Forest, Naive Bayes, and Logistic Regression using Orange Data Mining software data classification tests. Classification tests were performed using cross-validation in a table with about 3 M records, including COVID-19 exams with patients’ symptoms. The Random Forest algorithm has obtained the best average accuracy, recall, precision, and F1 Score in the COVID-19 predictive model performed in the mining stage. In performance evaluation, MongoDB has presented the best results for almost all tests with a large data volume.

About fifty years ago, the world’s first fully automated system for trading securities was introduced by Instinet in the US. Since then the world of trading has been revolutionised by the introduction of electronic markets and automatic order execution. Nowadays, financial institutions exploit the associated flow of daily data using more and more advanced analytics to gain valuable insight on the markets and inform their investment decisions. In particular, time series of Open High Low Close prices and Volume data are of special interest as they allow identifying trading patterns useful for forecasting both stock prices and volumes. Traditionally, relational databases have been used to store this data; however, the ever-growing volume of this data, the adoption of the hybrid cloud model, and the availability of novel non-relational databases which claim to be more scalable and fault tolerant raise the question whether relational databases are still the most appropriate. In this study, we define a set of criteria to evaluate performance of a variety of databases on a hybrid cloud environment. There, we conduct experiments using standard and custom workloads. Results show that migration to a MongoDB database would be most beneficial in terms of cost, storage space, and throughput. In addition, organisations wishing to take advantage of autoscaling and the maintenance power of the cloud should opt for a cloud native solution.

Teknologi telah mempengaruhi digitalisasi pada fungsi pekerjaan pada berbagai instansi. Pekerjaan dalam setiap fungsi kerja pada instansi dapat secara mudah dilakukan dengan adanya teknologi. Penggunaan teknologi berupa aplikasi membutuhkan sistem database untuk menyimpan data-data dan informasi pada suatu instansi. DBMS pada dasarnya terbagi menjadi 2 jenis yaitu DBMS relasional dan non-relasional. Contoh dari DBMS relasional adalah MySQL dan PostgreSQL, sedangkan DBMS non-relasional adalah MongoDB. Penelitian ini mengukur waktu yang diperlukan setiap DBMS dalam mengeksekusi query. Penelitian ini melakukan eksekusi pada berbagai skenario query, yaitu INSERT (create), SELECT (read), UPDATE (update), DELETE (delete), SUM, dan COUNT. Dataset yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berasal dari open data website kaggle yaitu data tentang permainan catur yang terdiri dari 16 kolom dan 20.058 baris data. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu PostgreSQL yang paling cepat waktu respon eksekusi query dibanding DBMS lain.
