Performance and dependability modeling with Möbius

Abstract: Möbius is a multi-paradigm multi-solution framework to describe and analyze stochastic models of discrete-event dynamic systems. Möbius is widely used in academia and industry for the performance and dependability assessment of technical systems. It comes with a design of experiments as well as automated support for distributing a series of simulation experiments over a network to support the exploration of design spaces for real-world applications. In addition to that, the Möbius simulator interfaces with Tra… Show more

“…The model described in Section 3 has been evaluated using the discrete-event simulator provided with the Möbius framework [7]. Analytical solution was not feasible, since our model allows more than one deterministic activity to be enabled at a time [5]; this is necessary to correctly represent the elapsing of tolerable duration intervals.…”

“…SANs [16] can be considered an extension of the well-known Stochastic Petri Nets (SPNs) [5] formalism; they provide a greater flexibility by introducing additional primitives and the possibility to use nonexponential transition delays. SANs are supported by the Möbius modeling framework [7], which provides both numerical and simulationbased methods for their evaluation. In building the model, a modular and compositional approach is employed, allowing different stage configurations to be easily modeled and evaluated.…”

“…A Stochastic activity network model [23] is developed to study the Smart distribution grid. The model is developed using the Mobius tool [24]. It is a general and composable stochastic model, which is built from atomic block models.…”

“…This choice is generally not a structural limit to the modeling potential; instead, the choice of the most suited technique can help in understanding some essential, hidden aspect of the system. In fact, modeling approaches exist (structured infrastructure for multiformalism modeling and testing of heterogeneous formalisms and extensions for systems [5,6], object-based multi-formalism modeling of systems [7,8], Mobius [9]), which support flexible choices by offering both modularity and hierarchical modeling and multiple solution 440 D. CEROTTI ET AL. strategies, including analytical and simulation-based solution engines and providing, in some cases, optimal solvers for specifical cases.…”
