Performance Analysis on RFID-Tag Collection Time of Wireless Embedded Access Tracking System on the Internet of Things (IoT) Platform

Abstract

Nowadays, embedded systems are ideas of a microcontroller-based computer hardware system related to wireless sensors of radio frequency identification (RFID) and wireless data communication by machine-to-machine (M2M) concept. This study has three applications: passive RFID, active RFID system, wireless IoT microcontroller, and internet networking communication. All technologies are implemented as a building's wireless access tracking system (WATS). The WATS can track personnel access in the organization or other related applications. The proposed system, which automates personnel access in an organization by automatically tracking access using a passive RFID tags system, works with Internet of Things (IoT) communication. Moreover, the active RFID technology is also involved in the design. The WATS can eliminate time wasted during manual scanning by personnel due to the rush hour on the morning of queueing daily. The WATS was designed to record real-time data tracking. The passive and active RFIDs work together perfectly over the wireless sensor network (WSN). In the study, two proximity passive RFID tags communicate with their reader at 125 kHz and 13.56 MHz frequencies. Two types of passive RFID tags with different frequencies compare the tag collecting time performance. The information was remotely sent to the primary office computer by real-time monitoring. Thus, the experiment results of both types of passive RFID demonstrate that the tag collection time with a single hop between the LF and HF passive RFID tags is different by 16.99%. Moreover, the tag collection time test of multiple hop communication between LF and HF passive RFID tags is 24.32%. The consideration factors are about the attenuation of the environment included.
