Performance Analysis of IEEE 802.15.4 Compliant Wireless Devices for Heterogeneous Indoor Home Automation Environments

Abstract: The influence of topology as well as morphology of complex indoor scenarios in the deployment of wireless sensor networks and wireless systems applied to home and building automation systems is analyzed. The existence of loss mechanisms such as material absorption (walls, furniture, etc.) and strong multipath components as well as the increase in the number of wireless sensors within indoor scenarios increases the relevance in the configuration of the heterogeneous wireless systems. Simulation results by means… Show more

“…The developed tool has been tested under a wide range of situations and scenario and extensive analysis in terms of operational parameters to guarantee simulation convergence has been performed [10][11][12][13][14]. The proposed scenario is a set of buildings and streets have been implemented, in which transceivers are located in different positions, resembling realistic users, which can be depicted in In order to emulate the operation of different wireless systems, the transceivers operate in the frequency bands of 868 MHz, 2GHz and 2.4GHz, which corresponds to Wireless Sensor Networks (based mainly on 802.15 standards), 3G-4G mobile networks and a large portion of Wireless LAN networks.…”

“…As previously stated, in order to analyze wireless channel behaviour, a deterministic approach based on an in-house 3D ray launching code is employed. This simulation code, which considers electromagnetic interaction with the material elements of the scenario, as well as reflection, refraction and diffraction, has been tested in a wide range of complex environments [3][4][5][6][7][8]. The main simulation parameters that have been used for the scenario are shown in Table I.…”
