Performance Analysis of Genetic Zone Routing Protocol Combined With Vertical Handover Algorithm for 3G-WiFi Offload

Abstract: In the deployment scenario of multiple base stations there is usually a deficiency in the routing protocols for load balancing in the wireless network. In this study, we propose a routing algorithm that can be implemented inMobile Adhoc Networks (MANETs) as well as third-generation (3G)-Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) offload networks. We combined the Genetic Zone Routing Protocol (GZRP) with the Vertical Handover (VHO) algorithm in a 3G-WiFi offload network with multiple base stations. Simulation results show that t… Show more

“…These simple implementations provide low handover latency but a low to medium throughput. The basic idea of a cost function based algorithm [10] [22] is to define a cost based on a combination of network parameters. Consequently, the candidate systems performance can be weighed up, in order to select the best network.…”

“…In [4] [5], the authors showed improvements on the gateway system in 3G network -WiFi Offload by using Genetic Zone Routing Protocol (GZRP) to maximize the load balancing of traffic on the heterogeneous networks. This has positively affected user throughput and helped to avoid traffic overload at the base station.…”

“…In [10][11][12][13], a concept known as load balancing using Genetic Zone Routing Protocol (GZRP) on the wireless network MANET, which is a load balancing with bringing the total packets received to an alternative route so as to reduce the traffic load on a standalone service. According to [9], GZRP is the development of hybrid routing protocols in MANET namely Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP) which is coupled with Genetic Algorithm (GA) [14].…”

“…In [10][11], [16][17], has carried out research related to the use of protocols GZRP combined with VHO occupancy in order to achieve efficiency levels of data traffic, either on the network or UMTS and WiFi networks; as well as the simultaneous performance of both networks. The discussion in detail to the discussion of performance improvement GZRP protocol can be used as a very interesting discussion in order to seek more comprehensive solutions related to problems that occur in the process of load balancing using GZRP protocol.…”
