Performance Analysis of DSR Protocol under the Influence of RPGM Model in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks

Abstract: In this paper, we have analyzed the performance of a Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork (MANET) using the Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol with groups of nodes moving according to the Reference Point Group Mobility (RPGM) model. Four different random mobility models, Levy-Walk, Probabilistic Random Waypoint, Random Direction and Random Walk were selected for group leader's mobility and the effects of changing communication load and transmission ranges were investigated. The results indicate that the performance of DSR… Show more

“…In addition, the random direction model (RD) has been utilized to model the ground movement [23]. Specially, the group mobility model in which each node has a logical center of movement, such as reference point group model (RPGM) [24], [25] and extension versions of RPGM [10], are proposed to capture the mobility of group of humans or vehicles.…”

“…It determines the frequency of topology changes and the behaviour of nodes in the network in terms of mobility patterns. The impact of Reference Point Group Mobility (RPGM) model plays an important role in the evaluation of routing protocols for wireless networks (Amjad, 2011;Jiajia et al, 2015;Verma et al, 2013;Xi et al, 2014;Simaremare et al, 2013). This mobility model is ideal to represent groups of vehicles moving around.…”

“…Through sim ulation study, it is shown th a t the reactive protocols (AODV, DSR) perform significantly b e t ter than th e proactive protocol DSDV. The author in [73] analysed th e perform ance of DSR protocol under the Reference Point Group M obility (RPGM) model, and showed th a t th e protocol performance is highly dependent on the mobility behaviour adopted by nodes in MANETs. They used different mobility models where th e leader is moved as levyWalk, random direction, probabilistic random direction and random walk models.…”
