Performance Analysis of a Stirling Engine Hybrid Power System

Abstract: The Bolivian government’s concerns that are related to reducing the consumption of diesel fuel, which is imported, subsidized, and provided to isolated electric plants in rural communities, have led to the implementation of hybrid power systems. Therefore, this article presents the performance analysis in terms of energy efficiency, economic feasibility, and environmental sustainability of a photovoltaic (PV)/Stirling battery system. The analysis includes the dynamic start-up and cooling phases of the system, … Show more

“…Figure 6 illustrates the block diagram for the standard model of a DE and speed governor used in this paper. This model has been often used because the dynamic behaviors of small DE sets are properly described [25,26]. The speed controller consists of the droop gain R$$ R $$ and the integral gain Ki$$ {K}_i $$.…”

“…That study has been performed to fulfill the residential load of five different cities, and both gridconnected and off-grid PV system scenarios have been considered (Zou et al, 2017). Zabalaga et al (Jimenez Zabalaga et al, 2020) resented the performance analysis of the HRES including photovoltaic (PV), biomass Stirling engine and battery system. They compared the HRES with the PV/diesel engine/battery hybrid system and performed the analysis in terms of energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and economic feasibility.…”

“…These analyses have been commonly conducted by means of a techno-economic investigation aimed at comparing the performance of different energy conversion systems satisfying the same end-users' requests by means of energy, environmental and economic indices such as the fuel energy saving ratio, the avoided carbon dioxide emission index or the simple payback period. For instance, Zabalaga et al [5] have performed a performance analysis in terms of energy efficiency, economic feasibility, and environmental sustainability of an off-grid hybrid power system composed by photovoltaic/Stirling battery system for a Bolivian rural area. The hybrid system has been compared with a hybrid photovoltaic/diesel/battery system.…”
