Performance analysis of a single stage absorption heat transformer-based desalination system employing a new working pair of (EMIM) (DMP)/H2O

Abstract: Summary The objective of this work is to analyze the performance of a novel ionic liquid (IL), (EMIM) (DMP)/H2O (1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium dimethyl phosphate, and water) as the working fluid of a single stage absorption heat transformer (AHT) integrated into a desalination system. The first and second laws of thermodynamics are applied for the suggested IL and compared with the conventional type, LiBr/H2O, under various operational conditions. The whole system has been modeled through a code developed in Eng… Show more

“…It is evident that the essence of grid based management system is measuring the real-time data and from this point of view, it can be categorized in smart-grid classification. On the other hand, since water-related issues in terms of separation, heat integrated distillation, purification, process water removal/treatment, pumping and distribution are energy-intensive processes [92][93][94], then they are intimately connected to energy management systems such as smart grids.…”

“…In the last decades, ionic liquids have been used as electrolytes of electrochemical devices showing quite promising results due to their good ionic conductivity, wide electrochemical window, and high thermal stability [11][12][13][14][15][16] . In particular, the tetrafluoroborate of 3-triethylammonium-propane sulfonic acid ionic liquid (TEA-PS.BF 4 ) was successfully applied in water electrolysis 1,[17][18][19] .…”

“…29,30 Presently, most of investigation was focused on the performance evaluation of VACs with ILs-refrigerants as a substitute working pair to LiBr-H 2 O. 22,[31][32][33][34][35][36][37] Literature study also reports various type of refrigerants in combination to IL for VACs 19,38 likely ammonia, 15,39,40 water, 23,25,[41][42][43] and hydrocarbons. 2,16,44 Shiflett and Yokozcki 13 have patented the use of ILs-refrigerant mixture as alternative working pairs in particularly 1-ethyl-3-metyl imidazolium tetrafluoroborate [emim] [BF4]-H 2 O.…”
