Abstract

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p> A systematic study of the cleavage of element-element bonds in compounds of the type R<jats:sub>n</jats:sub>E-ER<jats:sub>m</jats:sub> (R = CH<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>, CF<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>; E = P, As, S, Se, Te; n,m = 1, 2) by the group IV A element hydrides Me<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>M′H (M′ = Si, Ge, Sn; Me - CH<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>) has been carried out. To evaluate the reaction pathway, for a number of compounds the attack of H<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>O, CH<jats:sub>3</jats:sub>OH, HBr and HI has been investigated. Possible reaction intermediates have been synthesized by independent routes and tested under comparable conditions.</jats:p>
