Perfil de bilingüismo de niños, niñas de 6 a 9 años en una institución educativa bilingüe

Abstract

The objective of this study was to make approaches towards the construction of a bilingualism profile, and with it an articulated approach program with teachers, parents, and students, and speech therapists that favors better and more important educational performances from early childhood when immersed in a bilingual educational institution. The study was exploratory quantitative and involved the participation of 4 children from a bilingual institution in Bogota between 6 and 9 years of age. Data collection instruments included an interview and the application of the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test PPVT-III in Spanish and English. Within the results, it was found that factors such as the school career of the children and the level of mastery and use of the language by the parents have a great influence on the second language performance of the students, which could be considered a profile of bilingualism and thus predict their future school performance and likewise offer actions and programs to avoid major difficulties.
