La relación en el discurso entre el pretérito perfecto compuesto y las expresiones evaluativas. Análisis de una cuenta pública presidencial 1 Guillermo Soto Carlos Zenteno universidad de Chile ChileResumen: La retrospectividad y la subjetividad asociadas al pretérito perfecto compuesto (PPC) sugieren que este es adecuado para discursos de corte evaluativo que informan situaciones pasadas relacionadas con el momento de habla. El presente trabajo describe la relación entre las cláusulas en PPC y la expresión de distintos tipos de evaluación, a partir del examen de una cuenta presidencial pública, variedad de discurso en que el jefe de gobierno de Chile informa anualmente al país del estado administrativo y político de la Nación. El análisis muestra que el ppC opera como un activador de subjetividad que favorece la expresión de significados evaluativos, especialmente de apreciación positiva, sin incorporar dichos significados en su definición. Adicionalmente, muestra que, no obstante el presunto carácter expositivo de la clase textual, el enunciador configura una trama argumentativa que busca convencer de lo beneficioso de la gestión gubernamental, a través del informe de las acciones realizadas en el período pertinente. An analysis of an annual presidential address Abstract: The retrospectivity and subjectivity associated with the present perfect (PP) suggest that this construction proves adequate for discourses of an evaluative nature which report past time events related to speech time. This study describes the relationships between clauses with a PP predicate and the expression of different types of evaluative meanings as found in an annual presidential address, a discourse genre in which the Chilean head of government informs the country of the administrative and political state of the nation. The analysis carried out shows that the PP functions as a subjectivity trigger which favors the expression of evaluative meanings, especially positive appreciation. Nevertheless, these meanings do not become part of the PP's core semantic features. Moreover, this study demonstrates that despite the apparent expository nature of the discourse genre being examined, the addresser configures an argumentative discourse structure with the purpose of making the strengths of the governmental action explicit, giving an account of the actions implemented during the period involved. The analysis is compatible with a rhetorical approach to linguistic communication, whereby the addresser selects the lexical and grammatical resources that make her perlocutionary ends effective.

The last decade has witnessed a flurry of research into variation in the use of thePretérito Perfecto Compuesto(PPC) and thePretérito Perfecto Simple(PPS). Researchers have posited a resemblance between the Argentinian (ARG) and the Mexican PPC in its encoding of durative past situations extending into the present. Close inspection of 30 hours of talk-in-interaction data with 68 speakers of Argentinian River Plate Spanish provides no support for these claims. Instead, in this paper I argue that the vernacular ARG PPC is specialising to encode indefinite past. The past-referring character of the ARG PPC is visible in the discontinuity between the situation encoded by the PPC and the present. The ARG PPC’s specialised function of indefinite past temporal marking and its similarity to Chinese aspectual marker-guopose an interesting case of functional parallelism across typologically unrelated languages.
