Percutaneous recanalization of the bile duct along an endoscopic naso-biliary catheter

Abstract: Percutaneous recanalization of the bile duct is essential for placing biliary stents and carrying out other interventions. This prospective study was performed to establish safe approaches for percutaneous recanalization of the bile duct when it had previously resulted in failure. Between July 1995 and July 1999, percutaneous recanalization of the bile duct was attempted in 58 patients with a malignant biliary stenosis. When recanalization failed, an endoscopic naso-biliary drainage (ENBD) catheter was placed … Show more

“…Drainage catheters in different sizes, materials and types depending on the specific needs of the patient have been widely used in the clinic. [19][20][21][22] In this study, we developed a transoral duodenal balloon catheter for rats by the modification of a human Foley urinary catheter. However, because the drainage apertures were placed in the portion of the duodenum distal to the sphincter of Oddi, the collected fluid was not pure bile but rather a mixture of biliary, pancreatic and gastric secretions.…”

“…Bilirubin und alkalische Phosphatase waren in allen Fällen erhöht. Perkutane Verfahren dienen oft zur Problembehebung bei Stentverschlüssen [30]. Unter Umständen kann auch ein kombiniertes perkutan-endoskopisches Vorgehen von Vorteil sein [30].…”
