Interventional cardiologists, however, have pioneered these procedures, overcoming skepticism and criticism when complications were high with the first crude devices, and have managed to demonstrate feasibility and efficacy of these procedures for selected indications in experienced hands. Education of the hundreds of interventional cardiologists needed to meet the expected demand for procedures required to treat a frequent pathology, often reserved to patients with no other options, is a daunting task. This book is an important step forward and an essential reading for interventional cardiologists and many others, from cardiac surgeons to noninvasive cardiologists, involved in the care of these difficult patients.
