Percutaneous closure of ascending aortic pseudoaneurysm using Amplatzer septal occluder device: The first clinical case report and literature review

Abstract: We report the first case of the use of an Amplatzer septal occluder device to close a large ascending aortic pseudoaneurysm. The patient had a complex cardiac history with redo coronary artery bypass graft surgery, severe left ventricular dysfunction, and end-stage renal disease requiring hemodialysis. The procedure was successfully performed under fluoroscopic and 2D/3D transthoracic echocardiographic guidance. Six-week follow-up with both transthoracic echocardiography and MRI showed the device was in proper… Show more

“…5 The versatility of this device has been demonstrated in publications of its application in arteriovenous fistula, perianastomotic leak, pseudoaneurysm, and re-entry tear of TB-AD. [6][7][8][9] In the present report, we describe one case of TB-AD treated by sealing the proximal entry tear with a VSD occluder, which is, to our knowledge, the first clinical case.…”

“…Endovascular occlusion devices have been used to treat pseudoaneurysms when conventional surgical repair is deemed to be high‐risk and stent graft implantation is anatomically inappropriate . However, there are now several reports describing recurrent pseudoaneurysms and cardiac perforations following the insertions of these devices .…”

“…[3] Transcatheter exclusion is an alternative approach to surgery and is considered safer by some. [4567] Notwithstanding the approach, timely exclusion is the key. The goal is to prevent hemodynamic stress in the form of aortic pressure and flow transmission to the vulnerable sac.…”
