“…Based on a 60% frequency of response, the DONs and COOs offered these reasons: general management and health and nursing knowledge, human management skill and total organization view. In a sample of 92 DONs and 50 COOs, using a 12‐domain questionnaire, the DONs rated the following six domains as more essential than the COOs (Hansen 1993): leadership, organization, health care economics, personnel management, community and research.
