“…Measuring ecological impacts (e.g., of forests products) is the main challenge in the certification auditing process (van der Ven and Cashore 2018 , DeFries et al 2007, Job et al 2017, Pérez-Calderón et al 2020). This concept is in line with the international management strategy (Joint Management committee) of the European old-growth beech network included in the UNESCO world heritage serial site, in which the nature conservation of over 100,000 hectares of natural forest is aligned with low ecological impact resource use of nearby buffer zones.…”

“…In protected areas, various forms of sustainable tourism are allowed. Sustainable tourism aims to promote the development of an area while ensuring its resources are not depleted for future generations by minimizing negative environmental impacts, maximizing positive socioeconomic effects and allowing for the even distribution of its benefits among the main stakeholders (Spangenberg 2002, Miller 2001, Mowforth and Munt 2003, Weaver 2006, 2010, Stoddard et al 2012, Tyrrell et al 2013, Molina-Azorín and Font 2016, Pérez-Calderón 2020. Environment, culture and society, and economy represent the three main dimensions of sustainability in tourism, the so-called "triple bottom line"65 (Farrell 1992, Elkington 1997, 1998, Boley and Uysal 2014.…”

“…Although, in general, the environmental component is the one that contributes most to local sustainability, in the municipalities in the Timanfaya and Teide NPs, it is the economic dimension that is the most relevant. This is because of the high income related to the ecosystem services provided by recreational uses [75].…”

“…It is true that tourist activity, in general, does not always mean sustainability for a region, as it could sometimes cause damage to the environment, but as agritourism is concerned, it promotes the idea of combining the economic interests with the sustainable development of communities, and also with the conservation of nature. Hence, starting from the consideration that sustainability encourages those actions that support the economic purposes of rural settlements, but with a strong emphasis on harmonious environmental principles, we can state, with the help of other specialists [28][29][30][41][42][43][44][45][46], that agritourism is, in our times, a chance perhaps to ensure both economic development of rural settlements and the "health" of the environment, in other words to achieve the sustainability of rural regions.…”
