Perception of students with respect to educational stress and emotional intelligence: A study on online education during COVID-19

Abstract

As a result of COVID-19, the online education system has been introduced in the traditional education system in India. Online education provides comprehensively effective teaching and innovation in the system but somewhere, it has been observed that it also has some key areas need to be more explored to make it relevant and adaptable for the education system. In this study, it has been identified the perception of students by experiencing the online classes and their level of stress too. Furthermore, their coping strategies were also explored to mitigate the level of educational stress. In this research, primary data has been collected from 218 undergraduate and postgraduate students of Delhi-NCR from April-May 2021. It has been analysed by a chi-square test applied to the perception of academic stress scale (PAS) and emotional intelligence scale (EIS). It was found that there was a significant difference between academic failure and two different environments that affect the study among students. Furthermore, students have also engaged themselves in various online courses that can help them to learn new things. The significant implication of the results can be used by the government to draft the educational policies for the country, for academicians, it will be helpful to manage their curriculum and teaching pedagogy and for students, it will be helpful to use mitigate the stress and coping from that by using various ways.
