Introduction:In short, abdominoplasty consists of removing excess subcutaneous and adipose tissue from the abdominal region, whereas liposuction removes excess adipose tissue, however, a post-surgical period without adequate followup generates a high risk of complications, therefore, it is necessary to a specialized and individualized treatment protocol based on the resources available in the dermatofunctional area, among which manual therapy and electrotherapeutic resources can be highlighted as minimizing and/or repairing possible damage. Objective: To review the importance and performance of the dermatofunctional physiotherapist in complications resulting from the postoperative period of plastic surgeries of abdominoplasty and liposuction. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review through the search for scientific data on the following platforms: PubMed, Scielo, Google academic and in the journal of the Brazilian Journal of Plastic Surgery, being published between the years 2011 to 2022. Results and discussions: Sixteen articles were selected that aim to use resources and techniques available in dermatofunctional in the treatment of complications resulting from the postoperative period of liposuction and abdominoplasty. Final Considerations: It can be seen that the physiotherapeutic resources and techniques are effective for the reduction and/or recovery of complications arising from plastic surgeries of abdominoplasty and liposuction, with the predominant treatment being manual lymphatic drainage and lymphotaping, however, they are necessary new studies on the resources resulting from these complications.

Este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar temporalmente o edema nos membros superiores, inferiores e tórax durante o período pós-operatório de pacientes submetidas à cirurgia plástica. Trata-se de um estudo quantitativo e prospectivo exploratório com uso de dados secundários de pacientes que foram submetidos a procedimentos cirúrgicos plásticos por uma clínica particular da cidade de Cascavel no Paraná no ano de 2023. Após a aprovação ética (CAAE nº 65891922.3.0000.5219), foram coletadas as perimetrias no pré e pós-operatório (15, 30 e 60 dias) dos seguintes sítios anatômicos: cicatriz umbilical, 5 cm abaixo da cicatriz umbilical, pulso, metacarpo, mão, joelho e 5 cm acima do joelho. A pesquisa foi composta por 14 pacientes do sexo feminino com idade entre 18 e 57 anos. Aos 15 dias de pós-operatório de mamoplastia foi observado um aumento médio de 15,1 mm na cicatriz umbilical, 12,6 mm em 5 cm abaixo na cicatriz umbilical, para o pulso 9,3 mm, no joelho foi de 7,5 mm, para 5 cm acima do joelho foram 6 mm, no metacarpo 5,1 mm e 4,7 mm nas mãos. Para aquelas submetidas a lipoaspiração houve um aumento médio de 22,8 mm na cicatriz umbilical, 34,2 mm nos 5 cm abaixo na cicatriz umbilical, para o pulso 10,5 mm, no joelho foi de 15,7 mm, para 5 cm acima do joelho foram 11,1 mm, no metacarpo 5,5 mm e 4,3 mm nas mãos. Quando comparados os tipos de cirurgia com os sítios anatômicos, a lipoaspiração produziu mais edema do que a mamoplastia na cicatriz umbilical, 5 cm abaixo dela, no joelho e 5 cm acima dele.

Introduction: The practice of plastic surgery began in the field of reconstructive surgery, in an attempt to recover the functionality of some area of the body or give it a more natural appearance. In this sense, the role of the physical therapist is recommended in various aesthetic surgeries that, through physical therapy resources and techniques, promote tissue healing, reduce the appearance of adhesions, and reduce or eliminate pain, bruises, and edema. Objective: to identify the effects of physical therapy in the postoperative period of plastic surgery. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review, in which there will be a review of articles related to the study of the effects of physical therapy assistance applied to the postoperative period of plastic surgery. Articles related to the proposed theme were included, published between 2011 and 2024, available in full, without language restriction; in addition to theses, dissertations, and monographs. Exclusion criteria were literature review articles, articles or abstracts that had been published in conference proceedings; as well as letters from editors and preprints. Results and discussions: it can show that physiotherapy in the postoperative period of plastic surgery is essential in reducing recovery time, reducing edema, improving the healing process, and preventing the risk of complications in the postoperative period. The main physiotherapeutic resources and techniques were: lymphatic drainage, ultrasound, radiofrequency, laser, and high frequency. Regarding plastic surgeries, the most frequent in the literature were: abdominoplasty, blepharoplasty, rhytidectomy, and liposuction. Final considerations: Dermatofunctional physiotherapy is of paramount importance in the postoperative period of plastic surgery. It is essential in reducing recovery time and reducing the risks arising from surgery.
