Peptoniphilus faecalis sp. nov., isolated from swine faeces

Abstract: An obligately anaerobic, Gram-positive, non-motile, coccus-shaped bacterial strain designated AGMB00490T was isolated from swine faeces. 16S rRNA gene sequence-based phylogenetic analysis indicated that the isolate belongs to the genus Peptoniphilus and that the most closely related species is Peptoniphilus gorbachii WAL 10418T (=KCTC 59… Show more

“…Peptoniphilus spp. have mostly been isolated from human clinical samples (Ezaki et al 2001 ; Citron et al 2012 ; Diop et al 2019 ) and in some rare cases they are isolated from animals like swine, cattle or pig (Rooney et al 2011 ; Wylensek et al 2020 ; Ryu et al 2021 ). Currently, there are more than 20 species validly published with standing in the nomenclature ( https://lpsn.dsmz.de/genus/peptoniphilus ).…”

“…ASVs assigned to Fastidiosipila by SILVA, are among those assigned to Clostridium genus in Green Genes database. Another relatively recently annotated genus Peptoniphilus 23 are common genital microbiota in humans 26 and also very recently reported in swine feces 27 . Among the genera reported as suppressed by phytogen supplementation, we have a few generally accepted beneficial genera such as Lactobacillus, Ruminococcus and Butyricicoccus and a wide range of genera with known and emerging pathogenic behaviours.…”
