Peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerases, a superfamily of ubiquitous folding catalysts

Abstract: Cyclosporine A therapy for prophylaxis against graft rejection revolutionized human organ transplantation. The immunosuppressant drugs cyclosporin A (CsA), FK506 and rapamycin block T-cell activation by interfering with the signal transduction pathway. The target proteins for CsA and FK506 were found to be cyclophilins and FK506-binding proteins, (FKBPs), respectively. They are unrelated in primary sequence, although both are peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerases catalyzing the interconversion of peptidylprolyl… Show more

“…Three other PCNA-binding proteins upregulated in cancer cells are all relevant to cancer development and progress. Peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase frequently over-expresses in many cancer tissues [43][44][45][46]. The level of mitochondrial malate dehydrogenase is often elevated in the human breast cancer tissue [47].…”

“…The consistency between proteomic and metabolomic biomarkers suggested that proteomics and metabolomics could validate one another using the corresponding biomarkers involved in the same metabolic pathway. Peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerases (PPIase) can catalyze the cis-trans isomerization of peptide bonds on the amino-terminal side of proline [47]. It has been thought to be essential for protein folding during protein synthesis in the cell [47].…”

“…This protein is postulated to be involved in intracellular signaling [39]. Peptidyl-prolyl cisetrans isomerases (PPIase) can catalyze the cisetrans isomerization of peptide bonds on the amino-terminal side of proline [40]. It has been thought to be essential for protein folding during protein synthesis in the cell h Fold changes with significant changes (>1.5 folds and P < 0.05) were calculated using ImageMaster 2D Platinum 7.0.,.…”
