He earned a PhD in International Development from the University of Oxford. His research focuses on insurgent violence, non-state governance and the linkages between mobility, power and politics. His academic articles have appeared in leading journals, including The Journal of Modern African Studies, African Affairs, African Studies Review and Current History.
