Penile Keloid Successfully Cured in a Keloid High-Tendency Patient

Abstract: Keloid scars are a relatively common condition but extremely rare in the penis. This case aims to be added to the previous 34 cases of penile keloid reported in the literature. We present the case of a 15-year-old patient with a high keloid-forming tendency who was successfully cured of penile keloid scarring with excision alone and without any adjuvant therapy. No recurrence was reported over eight years of follow-up. In contrast, at the same time, recurrence is frequently observed in other body parts after e… Show more

“…In only one patient described, 7 adjuvant radiation was performed. In four patients in the series studied, only surgical resection of the scar was chosen, without any complementary form of therapy 13,14,27,28 . In three of them, no recurrence was observed, however, in one of the cases, follow‐up was not reported by the author—even so, this data is quite controversial in terms of the current literature, since the exclusive surgical excision therapy is related to high rates of keloid recurrence in other body topographies 29 …”

“…This data is corroborated by the study by Abualjubai et al in which a case of a 15‐year‐old patient with several keloid scars in other topographies was reported. The patient underwent the same multimodal treatment with corticoid infiltration followed by surgical excision and compression therapy with silicone in the postoperative period, both in the penile keloid and in an axillary keloid, and only the penile scar did not present recurrence 28 …”
