This research is the initial stage of the entire process of developing a functional drink based on germinated brown rice flour. The purpose of this study was to see the effect of the type of water used and it’s relation to the duration of soaking brown rice in the germination process. From previous research, it is known that the germination process can significantly increase Gamma-aminobutyic acid (GABA) levels. GABA itself is a bioactive component which is a requirement so that this product can later be said to be a functional food. The type of water used in this study was bottled mineral water and Reserve Osmosis (RO) water with a variation of soaking time of 12 and 24 hours. The parameters observed were moisture content, ash content and carbohydrate content. The results showed that the highest water content was obtained from soaking in mineral water for 24 hours (10.9%). The highest ash content was obtained from soaking for 24 hours in mineral water (1.67%). The highest carbohydrate content was obtained from the control treatment (78.65%).

The study was aimed to obtain information regarding the early selection method of Limau lime under saline and drought condition including the proper method for seed extraction, observation period in germination testing, and type of germination media. The experiment was conducted from March 2015 to January 2016 at the Laboratory of Seed Science and Technology, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultural University. It consisted of four main experiments. The first experiment was the extraction method on Limaulime seed using distilled water, ash from the husk, talcum powder, and HCl 1%. The second experiment was germination testing of lime seed using three media i.e. sand, the combination of sand: soil (1:1) (v:v), and towel tissue. The third experiment has tested the vigor of Limau lime seeds in different saline conditions by using NaCl, i.e. 1500 ppm, 3000 ppm, and 4500 ppm. The fourth experiment, tested the vigor of Limau lime seeds in drought stress condition using PEG 6000, i.e. 0, - 0.75 bar, -1.5 bar, and -2.25 bar. The result of the first experiment showed that the treatments had no significantly different effect on all variables observed except for the seed moisture content. The second experiment revealed that the best germination media was elucidated from sand treatment and sand: soil (1:1) with the first and the second count at 20th and 29th day respectively. The result of the third and four experiment elucidated that the higher concentration of NaCl (Salinity stress condition) or PEG 6000 (drought stress condition), the smaller the germination percentage of Limau Lime’s seeds.

Jagung manis merupakan salah satu komoditas unggulan di PT. Bisi International Tbk selain beras hibrida dan benih sayuran di Indonesia. Pengendalian mutu produk akhir perlu dilakukan pada benih hasil proses ayak gravity, work in process (WIP), dan benih siap dikemas. Pengendalian mutu pada jagung manis meliputi uji kadar air, uji refraksi, uji daya tumbuh. PT. Bisi International menetapkan standar kadar air untuk jagung manis sebesar 9%-10%, daya tumbuh minimal 85%, dan kemurnian minimal 98%. Pada 4 sampel yang digunakan, uji kadar air hanya menggunakan salah satu sampel. Hal ini disebabkan karena sampel diambil dari varietas dan job yang sama, sehingga kadar air pada salah satu sampel dapat mewakili kadar air pada seluruh sampel. Pengujian kadar air dilakukan sebanyak dua kali ulangan. Uji refraksi dengan sortir manual dilakukan dengan cara menghamparkan benih diatas kertas alas dan diamati secara teliti berdasarkan kriteria refraksi yang sudah ditentukan. Uji vigor dan daya tumbuh dilakukan dengan metode Uji Kertas Digulung dalam plastik (UKDdp). Uji vigor dan daya tumbuh dilakukan dengan mengecambahkan benih diatas media tumbuh dengan empat ulangan pada setiap perlakuannya. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan dapat disimpulkan bahwa benih jagung manis yang lolos gravity memiliki kualitas paling baik
