Little is known about unintentional drowning deaths in Indonesia, the world’s fourth most populous and largest archipelagic country. This study aimed to describe the epidemiology and risk factors of unintentional drowning in Indonesia and explore existing health promotion and drowning prevention approaches in Indonesia within a socio-ecological health promotion framework. A scoping review, guided by PRISMA-ScR, was conducted to locate peer-reviewed studies and government reports/policy documents published until May 2023, in English or Indonesian language, using MEDLINE (Ovid), CINAHL, Informit, PsycINFO (ProQuest), Scopus, SafetyLit, BioMed Central and Google Scholar, Indonesian journal databases (Sinta, Garuda) and government agencies websites around the terms: drown, swim, flood, hurricane, cyclone, disaster, water rescue and maritime/boat safety. This review identified 32 papers. However, a paucity of information on unintentional drowning rates, risk factors and prevention in Indonesia was noted. The unavailability of a coordinated national drowning data collection system in Indonesia, from which national and subnational subcategory data can be collected, underlines the possibility of under-representation of drowning mortality. The association between various exposures and drowning incidents has not been fully investigated. An over-reliance on individual-focused, behaviour-based, preventive measures was observed. These findings highlight the need for improving drowning surveillance to ensure the availability and reliability of drowning data; and strengthening research to understand the risk factors for drowning and delivery of drowning prevention programs. Further policy development and research focusing on health promotion approaches that reflect a socio-ecological approach to drowning prevention in Indonesia is imperative.

Tenggelam merupakan suatu kejadian terendamnya seluruh atau sebagian tubuh di dalam air. Pada umumnya tenggelam dikatakan sebuah kecelakaan, dimana baik secara langsung atau dikarena ada beberapa faktor yaitu seperti korban dalam kondisi yang mabuk ataupun dipengaruhi oleh obat. Tujuan umum dari penelitian untuk mengetahui tingkat pengetahuan Pengawas Kolam renang tentang pertolongan pertama pada korban tenggelam di Kolam Pemandian di Kota Gorontalo. Metode penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain deskriptif dengan jumlah sampel 34 responden di 4 kolam pemandian berbeda dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pengetahuan baik berjumlah (52,9%) dan berpengetahuan kurang berjumlah (47,1%). Disimpulkan bahwa tingkat pengetahuan pengawas kolam renang tentang pertolongan pertama pada korban tenggelam di kolam pemandian kota gorontalo sudah dalam kategori baik.

It is possible to use the global decline in the Covid-19 epidemic as a trigger for the revival of Bali's tourism sector. Bali tourism includes a significant portion of water sports like surfing, diving, rafting, and swimming on beaches, lakes, and rivers. Swimming pools and other activities are available at amusement parks. One of the most common events in water tourism is almost drowning. There were 9 fatalities and 300 drowning instances in the Kuta beach area alone, according to the 2018 data. Because it is essential for tourist actors, especially those associated with water leisure, to acquire Basic Life Support (BLS) training, especially in saving drowning victims, the success of the rescue of drowning victims greatly depends on the speed and precision of administering BLS. The administration of the Quest San Denpasar Hotel, where Partners work, wishes to offer first aid training for accidents, particularly for drowning victims, as none of the hotel staff have ever had first aid training. Ten hotel staff members attended the training on October 29, 2022, at the Quest San Denpasar Hotel. The training provided is in the form of theory and practice of identifying drowning victims, activating the emergency system, evacuating victims from the waters to land, providing BLS, and sending victims to the nearest health facility. Before the training, a pre-test was carried out and afterward, a post-test was carried out, from the results of these tests it could be concluded that there was an increase in the participants' knowledge of 32%, and from BLS practice all participants were able to assist properly.
