Background: Sensorineural-type hearing loss can occur in people who have chronic kidney disease (CKD) and with hemodialysis treatment. Sensorineural-type hearing loss is a hearing loss that occurs due to damage to the cochlear and the 8th cranial nerve. Hearing loss in CKD undergoing HD can occur at both high and low frequencies. Purposed: The aimed of this study was find out incidence of hearing loss and correlation of Hearing Impairment between Risk Factors Hypertention and Diabetes Melitus Type 2 in CKD patients with hemodialysis treatment. Methods: This study was observational analytics. The sample examined in this study were all CKD patient with hemodialysis treatment based criteria study. The hearing impairment were examined using audiometry. For statistic test using Spearman correlation test with significance level p = 0.05. Results: Fifteen patients (28.8%) with normal hearing. Patients who experience hearing loss as many as 37 patients (71.1%). Most of them were mild degree hearing loss, 29 patients (55.8%). Six patients (11.5%) were moderate hearing loss, and two patients (3.8%) were moderate hearing loss. Based on the results of the Spearman rho test showed that p=0.602 for hypertention and DM type 2 was p= 0.102 Conclusion: There was no correlation of hearing impairment between risk factors Hypertention and DM type 2 in CKD patients with hemodialysis treatment.

Background: Sensorineural hearing loss can occur in chronic kidney patients (CKD) who undergo hemodialysis. Haemodialysis sessions influence sensorineural hearing loss significantly. Hearing loss in CKD and hemodialysis patients need an assessment tool for early detection. HHIA questionnaire seems has potential to be used as an early detection of hearing loss in CKD patients with hemodialysis. The correlations of HHIA total scores and number of hemodialysis in this population remain unknown. Objective:To analyze the correlation between HHIA (Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adult) total scores and number of hemodialysis in stage 5 chronic kidney disease patients in Haji general hospital Surabaya.Method: This study is an analytical, observational, and cross-sectional study. There were 43 patients included in this study. HHIA scores and number of hemodialysis were obtained by interview the patients based on HHIA questionnaire and patient's status form. Patients Age, sex, history of hypertension and diabetes, and audiogram was conducted from medical record. All of the data were analyzed by using SPSS Statistic 22 software.Results: 43 patients have responded to HHIA questionnaire. 42(95,3%) patients had no handicap and only 2(4,7%) patients had mild handicap. The correlation between HHIA total scores and number hemodialysis found not significant (r = 0,156, p = 0,319). Only 16 patients have PTA audiometry result, 10 patients (68,75%) had mild hearing loss, 1 patient (6,25%) had moderate hearing loss, and 4 patients (25%) were normal. Conclusions:The questioner assessment to assess the hearing loss in CKD patients with hemodialysis may applied practically and tolerable to the patients. There was no correlation between HHIA and number of hemodialysis.

Background: Along with the increasing incidence of chronic renal failure patients receiving hemodialysis, recently, the incidence of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) among patients with end-stage kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis had also increased. The cochlea and kidney have many anatomical, physiological, pharmacological and pathological similarities. Dialysis sometimes causes worsening of hearing function. Objective: To determine the correlation between the duration of renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis and the degree of sensorineural hearing loss. Method: A retrospective study using cross sectional method, conducted from August–September 2018. The study began by identifying patients with chronic renal failure and then continued with Oto Acoustic Emission (OAE) examination and pure tone audiometry. Result: The results of the Spearman rank statistical test for the correlation between duration of hemodialysis and the degree of SNHL in the right and left ears in patients with chronic renal failure found a significant positive correlation r= 0.498 and p=0.001 (right) , and r= 0.400 and p=0.006 (left). Conclusion: There was a significant correlation between the length of hemodialysis and the degree of sensorineural hearing loss. ABSTRAKLatar belakang: Seiring dengan peningkatan angka kejadian pasien gagal ginjal kronik yang mendapatkan hemodialisa, akhir-akhir ini didapati peningkatan angka kejadian Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SNHL) di antara pasien dengan penyakit ginjal stadium akhir yang menjalani hemodialisa. Koklea dan ginjal memiliki banyak kesamaan anatomis, fisiologis, farmakologis dan patologis. Dialisa terkadang menyebabkan memburuknya fungsi pendengaran. Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui hubungan lama pasien gagal ginjal yang menjalani hemodialisa dengan derajat gangguan pendengaran tuli sensorineural. Metode: Penelitian retrospektif dengan metode potong lintang, dilakukan dari Agustus-September 2018. Penelitian dimulai dengan mengidentifikasi pasien gagal ginjal kronik kemudian dilanjutkan dengan pemeriksaan tes Oto Acoustic Emission (OAE) dan audiometri nada murni. Hasil: Hasil uji statistik Spearman rank untuk korelasi lama hemodialisa dengan derajat SNHL telinga kanan dan kiri pada pasien gagal ginjal kronik didapatkan korelasi positif yang signifikan: r= 0,498 dan p=0,001 (kanan) dan r= 0,400 dan p=0,006 (kiri). Kesimpulan: Terdapat korelasi yang bermakna antara lama hemodialisis dengan derajat tuli sensorineural.
