Aplikasi nanopartikel liat sebagai bahan pengawet kayu karena nanopartikel bersifat halus dan larut dalam air. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas keawetan dan kekuatan kayu. Pengawetan kayu dengan bahan nanopartikel liat yang menggunakan teknik impregnasi ke dalam kayu sengon agar dapat meningkatkan sifat kekuatan dan keawetannya. Bahan yang digunakan adalah nanopartikel liat, kayu sengon (Paraserienthis falcataria) yang dibuat contoh uji 2cmx2cmx40cm. Sebanyak 30 contoh uji dikeringudarakan, dari 30 contoh uji dirinci 10 contoh uji dijadikan pembanding tanpa diimpregnasi, sedangkan 20 contoh uji diimpregnasi dengan bahan nanopartikel liat dalam konsentrasi larutan sebesar 5% dan 2,5%. Impregnasi yang dilaksanakan adalah vakum awal sebesar 10 cmHg selama 10 menit dan dilanjutkan dengan tekanan sebesar 60 psi selama 2 jam serta vakum akhir sebesar 10 cmHg selama 10 menit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa retensi dengan nanopartikel liat pada konsentrasi 5% dan 2,5% nilainya cukup tinggi. Keawetan kayu yang didasarkan pada persentase kehilangan berat dari serangan rayap kayu kering pada kayu sengon yang diawetkan dan tanpa pengawetan menunjukkan hasil yang sangat berbeda, terjadi peningkatan kelas awet, yaitu dari kelas awet empat menjadi kelas awet satu. Kekuatan kayu sengon ditunjukkan oleh adanya perubahan nilai tegangan pada batas proporsi, modulus patah dan modulus elastisitas, yaitu terjadinya peningkatan kekuatan dari kelas kuat lima atau sangat rendah menjadi kelas kuat empat atau rendah.

Termites are pests that damage wooden furniture. Termite attacks on wooden furniture are getting higher and wider so that the value of losses due to termite attacks on furniture is increasing from year to year. This research has succeeded in making particle boards from bintaro fruit fibers as fillers and urea formaldehyde resin (UF) as a matrix with a composition of filler mass fractions: the matrix of the particle board to be made is 30:70. The particle board that has been made is then coated using bintaro seed extract and UF resin using the spray coating method. The extract mass fractions of bintaro seeds and UF resins in this study were sample 1 (90:10), sample 2 (80:20), sample 3 (70:30), sample 4 (60:40) and sample 5 (50:50). The physical characterization of particleboard includes density, water absorption and moisture content. The mechanical characterization of particle boards is the bending strength and characterization of particle boards to resistance to termite attacks. The results of this study show that particle boards that have optimum values are sample particle boards 1 with a density value of 0.864 gr / cm³, water absorption of 4.28% which has met SNI 03-2105-2006 and the results of testing the resistance to termites 3.45% have met SNI 01-7207-2006. Because in the manufacture of particle boards are influenced by the structure and physical shape of the raw materials used.

Eusideroxylon zwageri wood is a type of wood wich have high natural durability that contains extractive compounds such as alkaloids, tannins, saponins, flavonoids, and phenolics that are toxic to wood-destroying organisms. The ironwood sawmill industry produces waste in the form of sawdust that has not been used but only disposed of into the environment. Therefore, that wood sawdust waste can be used as a natural wood preservative to preserve wood whish have low natural durability such as Anthocephalus cadamba. In this study, A. cadamba wood preservation was carried out with irondust extract with various solution formulas, namely 5%, 10%. 15% and 20%. The purpose of this study was to know the effect of irondust extract solution formula as a preservative on the results of jabon wood preservation which includes absorption and retention of preservatives, mortality of dry wood termites, and the percentage of weight reduction of test samples after being fed to dry wood termites. The results of this research showed that the irondust extract solution formula had a significant effect on the absorption and retention of preservatives and the mortality of dry wood termites. The 20% irondust extract solution formula resulted in a higher preservative retention and drywood termite mortality value than the 5%, 10% and 15% solution formula, which was 12.13 Kg/m3 for retention and 88% for drywood termite mortality.
