“…Unfortunately, 1 child was injured by a mine explosion, a remnant from the Iraq-Iran war, with no need to emphasize the dangerous consequences of war even after several years. Like other studies, other sources of trauma such as needles, tree branches, pens, scissors, metallic keys and broken glass jars were also reported [12,17] but had lesser frequencies.…”

“…It seems that corneal wounds that penetrate deep into the anterior segment have the highest risk of endophthalmitis; this includes needle injuries, just as we reported previously in a separate article. 18 This could be because of more effective inoculation of pathogens and microorganisms. However, we also found that wounds in Zone II or Zone III were smaller in size (approximately 2-3 mm), and it seems that smaller wound sizes can change the globe into a suitable culture medium for microorganisms.…”

“…It is a significant predictor of worse final visual outcomes [ 12 ]. Despite the needle being contaminated and the injury occurring in a rural location, our patient did not develop endophthalmitis, which is a commonly reported complication of open globe injuries with needles and is considered a significant poor prognostic factor [ 1 , 3 ]. Awareness campaigns aimed at educating families about the risks associated with children handling dangerous objects are essential to prevent such injuries, which can have serious consequences on vision.…”

“…Penetrating needle eye injuries are not documented enough in the literature. There are few reports describing the presentation of such cases [ 3 - 5 ]. This report aims to illustrate the clinical presentation, management, and outcome of a veterinary needle-induced eye injury.…”
